Whilst Carnival is of course about bringing together our community and having fun, we're also aiming (with your help!) to raise lots of money allowing us to gift on every penny to local charities!
Below, you can read all about our nominated charity for 2013. Details of other charities we have supported in the past can be found on the right.
What is it?
Fleet Phoenix was started up by a group of dedicated youth workers in response to service cuts locally and nationally. They are committed to ensuring the continuation of valuable and needed services for young people in our area. The team offers a friendly approach to young people offering them a safe, warm and welcoming environment where they will not be judged. Their approach can be either informal or formal, depending on the circumstances.
Fleet Phoenix co-ordinate a variety of youth projects to young people in Hart aged from 11-25 years. They deliver music projects, youth clubs and mentoring projects, in addition to community outreach and detached work in both urban and rural areas of the district. The Organisation was founded in November 2011. The youth worker team have worked with more than 539 young people and run more than 80 detached sessions.
Some of their key activities include:
Day time advice & information and guidance sessions
Follow up on referrals from supporting agencies
Referrals made to specialist services for young people
Sexual Health advice & information
Supporting young people with a variety of issues including employment, sexual health, relationships, bereavement, mental health issues, drugs & alcohol use and misuse, poverty, isolation, homelessness, parenting…the list is endless!
As an organisation they endeavour to continue the delivery of excellent provisions and services for young people, respond to their needs and support the constant development of a healthy community which lives, works and plays together.
